THE UPSIDE OF A SUMMER BREAK FROM COUNSELLING
(THERE CAN BE BENEFITS)
When the summer holidays begin, routines often change. Family holidays, childcare, different work patterns and a complete change of pace can make fitting in counselling sessions less straightforward. For others, having a pause simply feels right.
Taking a planned summer break from regular counselling can therefore be necessary or intentional, but it can also feel unsettling.
A break isn’t always the right choice for everyone, but if you are taking one, you may find there are benefits to the pause.
Sometimes the work you’ve already started continues quietly in the background.
YOU DISCOVER WHAT STAYS WITH YOU
Without a session every week, a longer break can help you notice which ideas, coping strategies and new ways of thinking have really stuck.
YOU REALISE HOW MUCH HAS CHANGED
Sometimes when sessions are paused, you may find it easier to recognise how you’re thinking, responding and coping differently from a few months ago.
THINGS HAVE TIME TO SINK IN
Not every insight has an immediate impact. Sometimes it takes a bit of time for things to click. A break in counselling may allow space for that to happen before moving on.
YOU NOTICE WHAT STILL NEEDS ATTENTION
A break may not only highlight what has changed but also reveal the parts of your life or yourself that still feel difficult or unresolved.
YOU COME BACK WITH A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Many people return from a break with new insights and greater clarity about what they’re experiencing.
YOU REALISE WHAT COUNSELLING GIVES YOU
A break can highlight just how valuable that regular space has become.
SOMETIMES A BREAK IS JUST WHAT YOU NEED
Sometimes a planned break can be exactly what you need - giving you time to reflect, recharge and return feeling refreshed and ready to continue the work you’ve already started.
